Toyota Land Cruiser 1967–2026
On the 55 and 60 Series, hunt the most solid body you can find and walk away from a rotten frame. The 80 Series to hunt is a 1993 to 1997 truck, with the 4.5L six and the optional front and rear lockers. The 100 Series brought the first V8; ask for proof of the timing belt. The 200 Series is the last V8, and the 250 Series is a smaller hybrid.

Generations
-
55 Series 1967–1980
The first Land Cruiser built as a wagon from the start, nicknamed the Iron Pig. Inline-six power, part-time 4WD and a tailgate with a window that winds down into it.
-
Rust in the roof, cowl, rockers and arches All years Walk away if found
What to check: Look along the roof by the drip rails, the cowl, the lower front fenders, inside the doors, the rockers, the wheel arch lips, the floor by the kick panels and the bottom of the tailgate. Then check the frame rails and body mounts.
Hagerty calls rust the main concern. Replacement panels mostly do not exist, so repairs are made by hand, and a poor past repair is a reason to offer less or walk away.
-
-
60 Series 1981–1990
Moved the wagon upmarket with power steering and air conditioning, on leaf springs and part-time 4WD. The FJ60 has a carbureted 4.2L and a 4-speed manual; the FJ62 from 1988 has a fuel-injected 4.0L and an automatic.
-
Rusted rear frame rails All years Walk away if found
What to check: Drop the spare tire and look at the rear frame rails.
Corsetti Cruisers calls this the most important check and frame rust the costliest repair. Three members of one IH8MUD thread name frame rust, one of them by the spare tire, and one says to walk away from a rusty frame.

80 Series 1991–1997
