Machining debris that wrecks the main bearings Recalled engines
What to check: Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup, and ask for proof the recall work or a replacement engine was done. Listen for knocking.
Toyota reported that some engines were built with machining debris left in the crankcase, which can reach the number 1 main bearing and cause wear or failure. Pickup Truck Talk says recalls 24V-381, 25V-767 and 26V-320 cover 2022 to 2024 Tundras with the non-hybrid engine and Lexus LX and GX models, but not the Tundra i-FORCE MAX, the Sequoia or the Land Cruiser. A teardown it reports found spun main bearings and fine metal in the oil passages. Wikipedia says teardowns also found bearing wear in some replacement engines.
