Stretched timing chain and broken guides1983–1985Listen for chain slap or a rattle from the front of the engine, and ask when the timing chain was last replaced.¹

Recalls filed for these model years. Not every car is covered; check the vehicle identification number with NHTSA.

Recall 86V1320001982Solder joints in the cruise control computer can crack, which can make the engine race and the car speed up suddenly. The computer is replaced if needed. Ask for proof the recall work was done.^2,3
