Toyota's hydraulically linked anti-roll bars, which stay stiff on the road and let the suspension flex off it.

The story

History: facts, each with its source

Wikipedia says KDSS adjusts the front and rear stabilizer bars through a set of interconnected hydraulic cylinders, joined by hydraulic piping and a control cylinder on the frame rail. It does not engage in normal driving, when the hydraulic pressure is equal, and activates off road when it senses that a wheel has dropped.1

Toyota UK's magazine says that when cornering on the road equal pressure is applied, so the anti-roll bars twist normally and limit body roll. Off road, wheels at different heights push the cylinder pistons in opposite directions, which counteracts the anti-roll bars and allows maximum articulation of the suspension.2

Capital One says KDSS was optional on the Lexus GX 470 from 2004 and standard on the 200 Series Land Cruiser from 2008 through 2021, and has been an option on some fifth-generation 4Runners since the 2010 model year. Wikipedia says that from the 2025 model year KDSS became a Lexus-only feature.3,1
